he influence of black Americans who battled injustice
and fought for equality is still evident today throughout
the Mississippi Delta, from Vicksburg, Mississippi to
Memphis, Tennessee. Their stories are kept alive in the
region's many museums, some dedicated to music. Significant
landmarks include the Delta town of Mound Bayou, the first
incorporated community of independent blacks in 1887. At
Tunica's RiverPark Museum, stories are told at the exhibit,
From Plantation to Prosperity. At the Emmett Till Historic
Interpretive Center in Glendora, learn how the murder of a
14-year-old African-American youth in 1955 sparked the Civil

anniversary at Toronto's Bata Shoe Museum during the
month of April. The exhibit will showcase some of the
English brand's original eight-holed 1460 boots, as well as a
pair from its newest collection, 1460 Remastered. The original
Doc Martens were favoured by postmen and policemen for
their comfort and durability. Since then, the 1460 has been
adopted, shaped and subverted by countless subcultures and
freethinkers, stomped on stages, streets and runways while
