DREAMSCAPES SPRING/SUMMER 2024 76 T R A V E L G A L L E R Y I n New York City, the adventure starts at check-in. Located in the historic neighbourhood of Herald Square, steps away from acclaimed landmarks—think the Empire State Building and Macy's—you have arrived to the new luxury stay-over, the Kixby Hotel. Opened in 2019 in the former Metro Hotel, the 195-room hotel ticks off today's jet setter's requirements offering spacious rooms, suites with noise-reducing features for restful slumber, free Wi-Fi and exceptional ameni- ties. On the second floor, beside the Peloton-equipped private fitness room there's an easy-breezy lounge with a futuristic BEVI water cooler that has your choice of fruity flavours or water-infused vitamin-boosters and electrolytes. In the afternoons, find complimentary snacks and fruit on offer including a state-of-the-art WMF java machine for café au laits and Americanos available at a push of a button. Calling on vintage influences and local flair, the hotel's design seamlessly inte- grates the history of the city with its fast-paced, exciting present. kixby.com I magine sleeping near Andy Warhol, having breakfast with René Magritte and lounging with Roy Lichtenstein. The lucky winner, Katelyn Harrington from Lakeside, Ontario, enjoyed her recent stay with husband Bill Sims (pictured here). DS: What were your trip highlights? KH: We visited many attractions. The Getty Villa was breathtaking and we were astounded by the countless artifacts. Santa Monica Beach was beautiful and calming. We had a great view of the mountains as well. Pacific Park and the Santa Monica Pier are iconic landmarks for us Canadians too. We especially enjoyed riding the Pacific Wheel. And then there was our bike tour with The Bike Center. We cycled through Santa Monica and Venice Beach, which was a highlight of our trip. We loved seeing the canals and taking in the beach air. The weather was perfect for a bike ride. DS: So would you recommend Santa Monica? KH: Definitely! The weather, the beach, the atmosphere and attractions are well worth the trip. A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS: Santa Monica Travel & Tourism and The Pierside Hotel Santa Monica.
